Cooney: “Your failure to adopt personal responsibility may have put Montanans at risk”
MONTANA – Following news that “several recent cases of COVID-19” were linked to the Let Freedom Ring concert on October 3rd in Helena, which Congressman Greg Gianforte attended without wearing a mask, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney called for Gianforte to suspend all in-person campaign activities and self-isolate until he receives a test for COVID-19 and is confirmed negative.
“Greg Gianforte, your reckless behavior and your failure to adopt personal responsibility has put Montanans at risk,” said Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney. “Just like Montanans can’t trust you to protect their health care or defend our public lands, we can’t trust you to keep us safe from the COVID-19 pandemic. Shame on you. Apologize to the people of Montana.”
Last week a group of 110 health care professionals sent Gianforte an open letter admonishing him for his failure to take COVID-19 seriously, joking about public health guidelines and flouting personal responsibility by consistently refusing to wear a mask to public events, including the Let Freedom Ring concert. Gianforte then attended the gubernatorial debate two days later without a mask, and embarked on a statewide campaign tour the following day.
