Helena, MT – Following news that “several recent cases of COVID-19” were linked to the Let Freedom Ring concert on October 3rd in Helena, which Congressman Greg Gianforte attended without wearing a mask, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney called for Gianforte to suspend all in-person campaign activities and self-isolate until he receives a test for COVID-19 and is confirmed negative.
While Gianforte is refusing to get tested for COVID-19, in direct violation of public health guidelines, Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney and Rep. Casey Schreiner received COVID-19 tests last night.
Cooney and Schreiner both tested negative for COVID-19.
“This virus has stolen 235 Montanans away from their friends and families – it deserves to be treated with the utmost seriousness and caution. Casey and I are thankful for all the well wishes we’ve received over the past 24 hours, and we’re relieved to announce that we have tested negative for COVID-19,” said Lt. Gov. Mike Cooney. “Congressman Gianforte’s stunning disregard for the health and safety of our fellow Montanans – despite his repeated preferred reliance on ‘personal responsibility’ – is shameful but unsurprising. A man who refuses to do the bare minimum to keep our neighbors safe is not fit to lead our state through a once-in-a-lifetime pandemic.”
